Aside from the Lammy awrads, the Firecracker awards, and the Ben Franklin Awards, the Small Press Awards were handed out, and Jack Fritscher and Palm Drive Publishing received one for the Best Erotic Book for 1998 for Rainbow County and Other Stories, his third collection of short stories. Fritscher said of his awards "It's great, because the award comes from the mainstream, and with coverage from Independent Publisher magazine (which sponsors the awards), these books will be exposed to many people who might otherwise never have heard of them." Upon receiving the awards, Fritscher's book was picked up by distributor and Lammy sponsor LPC Group, proving Fritscher's adage, "Awards work!"
